Bird Feeder

A cozy idle bird-watching game that lives just above your taskbar.

Get on with your day, and real birds of the Pacific Northwest drop by to visit. Glance down now and then: a chickadee at the tray, a jay after the peanuts, maybe a new page waiting in your Bird Book.

Coming soon on Steam · Windows 10 and 11

44 birds of the Pacific Northwest to get to know, and 2 rare strays you may never meet. Each newcomer leaves you a sealed page: open it to find a portrait, field notes and gentle clues to what it likes.

Once you have heard a bird in the garden, its page plays that song or call again, with a sonogram to follow along.

Animation: the Bird Book open on a Varied Thrush page; its call plays while a playhead runs across the sonogram, then a sealed page is opened.

Set out a little food and see who comes. Every visit earns stars for more food, feeders and garden pieces.

  • Sunflower seedchickadees, finches and sparrows
  • Peanutsjays and nuthatches
  • Suetwoodpeckers and bushtits
  • Nectarhummingbirds
  • Mealwormsrobins, wrens and thrushes

The crow, for the record, is not fussy.

Animation: birds fly in to the feeders in the garden strip one by one, and a star pops up as a visit pays out.

Click a bird and it calls back. Stroke it slowly and the view leans in close, with little hearts. Every bird has its own temperament: some lean into your hand, and the shy ones need a softer touch.

Animation: a click moves the view in close to an American Robin; a slow stroke on its back brings hearts.

Field cards are little seasonal goals in your Bird Book, like "See a Northern Flicker on the lawn on 3 days." A couple tuck themselves in each season. Finish one and it gets the season's stamp, and a step toward three Steam achievements.

The Cards page of the Bird Book: a finished spring card with a Northern Flicker, and the list of open and done cards.

Plant a madrone or a Douglas-fir, then press G and set everything just so, right down to the gnome. Each season lasts a week: soft rain or snow on the pine, a speckled fledgling begging for worms, and your lantern glowing on the lawn at dusk.

Been away a while? A little postcard tells you who came by.

Animation: the same garden view in spring, summer, autumn rain at dusk and a snowy winter night.

Bird Feeder was made with AI. The game's code, the pixel art (every bird, prop and background) and the in-game text (species notes, tips and menus) were written or drawn by AI agents (Claude Code). The music was generated with ElevenLabs (Eleven Music). Every sound effect and bird call is synthesized in code written by AI agents; the bird calls were tuned against measurements of real recordings, and no recording ships in the game. All of this content was made before release and ships inside the game. Nothing is generated while you play, and the game has no live AI features.
